CHRISTIANS URGED TO PREPARE ADEQUATELY BEFORE MARRIAGE

The Founder of Prayer Chapel International, Bubiashie, Accra, Bishop Benjamin Badu has urged Christians and prospective spouses seeking to enter into holy matrimony to prepare adequately ahead of time in order to achieve a good enduring success in their marriage relationships.

He said marriage was an institution that should be entered with the application of knowledge, wisdom and understanding based on biblical principles and not merely on the wings of love.

Speaking at a 3-day marriage seminar organized for singles and married couples during valentine day on the theme,â€ Candidate for happy marriageâ€, he said the event was intended to address the current frightening statistics concerning divorce, separation and marital issues in the church.

Bishop Badu said research studies prove that the three major causes of divorce in marriages which is about fifty percent in the worldwide Christian population is attributed to couples harbouring serious bitterness which explodes in due course, couples not spending quality time together,and poor communication.

He stressed on the invaluable role counseling played in the scheme of things adding however that some of the teachings on pre-marital and post-marital counseling were inadequate or incorrect.

He urged the church to engage members and organize well-thoughtout and well-researched counseling sessions for their members for the impartation of knowledge to curb the disturbing phenomenon of marriage collapse.

According to him, marriages are breaking down potentially because people lack the essential knowledge and information.

â€œBefore you marry, be equipped with the tools that can help you maintain the marriage as well as succeeding itâ€, he said.

The essential six tools, he said, prospective couples must have prior to marriage include using the brains , the Holy Spirit to guide us, Godâ€™s word to make right decisions, pastors to give us god counsel, parents to advice and Godâ€™s anointing altogether which can weather every storm in marriage.

According to him, a major potential factor which cause divorce in marriage which the church has not gotten the revelation at all is the fact that people who do not have agape love, which is Godâ€™s love can never practice successfully the institution God established.

â€œA person must have Godâ€™s love which is unconditional and does not look at a personâ€™s impressive background or features as the basis of loveâ€,he said.

He said in his sixteen years of marriage and journey into the ministry, following your heart as maintained by some pundits of marriage, will rather easily mislead you, but â€œwisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdomâ€, quoting Proverb 4;2.

The church, he said, will fail if it does not readdress the approach and training people receive before entering marriage, adding that Christians must know that not everything is spiritual so at times we must apply basic wisdom in some of our endeavors whilst studying to improve ourselves.
