PARENTS URGED TO DOUBLE THEIR ROLES

Vision Seed Academy, a basic school in La, Accra has held its 19th graduation ceremony with a call on parents and by extension schools to double up their roles and responsibilities in their noble duty of moral and academic supervision and training of the child.

Parents have also been urged to monitor children in what they are exposed to in the media and their social relationships.

The occasion which was on the theme “collaborative effort to fight moral decadence and ignorance in the society, the role of the teacher and the parent” saw 53 kindergarten pupils and 49 Junior High School pupils graduating to the next stage.

The call was made against the tide of moral decadence that seems to rear its ugly in society and the need to caution the generation of pupils passing out to face the outside world.

The General Overseer of Higher Praise Tabernacle, in La Accra, Rev. Dr. Victor Adjei Mensah who made the call as the guest speaker, said the large chunk of irresponsible parents we have today  are clearly responsible for the moral decadence that are common with the children and teenagers all over the world.

“Every parents you meet talks about the good old days when children were brought up with sound moral and ethical training. Why is it that parents who are privileged to have received such quality upbringing in time past are the ones bringing up useless, irresponsible and morally deviant children with little or no regard to societal norms and values? He asked.

According to him, the truth is that most parents have abdicated their primary responsibility of building up their homes and families in pursuit of wealth, riches, materials things, career, among others to the detriment of the future morals of their children.

He advised parents to do well and instill the fear of God in their children because the fear God is the beginning of wisdom which will guide the lives of these children.

The chairman of the occasion, Mr. Samuel Sowah Oblejumah an opinion leader urged teachers of the school to lay equal emphasis on the teaching of Ga and English as the school was hosted in a Ga community.

Parents, he said should monitor their children in their viewing of television and use of social media as there was a link between media images and deviant behavior.

Prizes were awarded to deserving pupils.
